ON THE WAY TO PROVENCE - MAY 2005
The Gorges de l'Ardèche’s area is one of the richest natural sites in Europe, as it groups together natural sights, beautiful landscapes, prehistoric art, cultural traditions and wonderful museums. The famous panoramic road of the «Gorges de l'Ardèche», on the northern side of the River Ardèche and with thirty two kilometres linking Vallon-Pont-d'Arc and St. Martin d'Ardèche, proposes an important quantity of places to see, with the spectacular gorges as the highlight!
"BEACH - The fluvial beach at Pont d'Arc in the Ardèche countryside provides the chance for a nice contrast between travellers and swimmers..."
"PONT D'ARC is a great natural bridge, carved out by the Ardèche River, with a width of sixty meters and a height of more than thirty"
"BELVEDERES - The limestone cliffs and the covering forests of the Gorges de l'Ardèche were granted nature reserve status in 1980. They result from geological changes that began 110 million years ago"
"CIRQUE DE LA MADELEINE"
"HEADING TO ST. MARTIN D'ARDÈCHE, where the marathon ends"

Oh Wow! What a beautiful sight :D It took my breathe away ;)
its beautiful.. and makes me wonder if its this gorgeous in pictures..what would it be like in person..
Every time I see such a beauty of Nature as this I ask myself 'How dare we call a man the Lord of Creation?! How dare we compete with Nature Almighty?!'
Thanks for making me revisit! Have been following the same road quite often, also on the way to or from Provence - much nicer than the "Autoroute du Sud" - if you have the time, of course! Even better if you can avoid July / August!
Very nice photography of a beautiful area.

Ohh it's such a lovely place to visit !! Limestone cliffs are wonderful and the sand is so very different.
Lol@Niki's comment on shirt. :P
How France is beautiful! but I also like to discover other countries.
I like the first photo a lot! I find funny that you were dressed so dark and poeple around your were on summer clothes!
What a lovely place! i have to tell you again and again that you're so lucky to know soooo many beautiful places!
always something interesting in your blog! great views!
The Pont d'Arc photo made me look up other images of it on Google. That is a beautiful thing -- can one walk out onto it, or is it too narrow and inaccessible?
WoW...some breathtaking shots & wonderful descriptions to go with it!
Magnificent. I remember once getting stuck in an enormous traffic jam on one of the narrowest roads I've been on, high above cliffs like this. It was in southern France, somewhere south of Carcassonne, but can't remember exactly where off-hand. We got out of the entanglement eventually as cars spent more than an hour moving a centimetre back, a centimetre forward etc. I was surprised that a road like that was two-way!
Beautiful lake with amazing panoramic view!! The "CIRQUE DE LA MADELEINE" indeed is beautiful and special!
Thanks everybody for your visits and supporting comments. I’m sorry I can’t post on a regular basis and also visit your blogs more often. Anyhow, I’ll try to keep in touch…

Travel is a must!
Dsole,
I also like that first one a lot…
As far as travelling, you must start early and keep running…
Lara, Kalyan
Thanks.
Z,
I haven’t seen anyone on the Arc. I believe it may be too hard to get up there…
Sally,
We were lucky enough to be there in May and on the afternoon of a day that started raining; so there was not much traffic. The road between Vallon-Pont d’Arc and St. Martin d’Ardèche is not so narrow, anyhow!
Cuckoo,
Emily,
The Cirque de la Madeleine is a great spot!
Wonderful view photos.
Breathtaking beauty. Splendid shots!
Lv2 and Ash,
