SEATTLE

MUCH MORE THAN BOEING, JIMMY HENDRIX, MICROSOFT,
AND STARBUCKS... - AUGUST 2002

"CRUISING - There is no better way to see Seattle than from the water. One of the possibilities is to take the cruise that connects Puget Sound with Lake Union via the Hiram Chittenden Locks. the return is made by coach"

"FREMONT - Sometimes referred to as "The People's Republic of Fremont," and at one time a center of the counterculture, Fremont was renowned as Seattle’s most artistically eccentric community. It is the home to a statue of Lenin salvaged from Slovakia by a local art lover, to the Fremont Troll, an 18-foot tall concrete sculpture of a troll crushing a Volkswagen Beetle in its right hand, as well as to signs proclaiming conflicting messages such as «Set your watch ahead five minutes», «Set your watch back five minutes» and «Throw your watch away»! Since the late 90s, residents refer to Fremont as «The Center of the Universe!»"

"SPACE NEEDLE TOWER - Built for the 1962 World's Fair, the tower is the Pacific Northwest's most recognizable landmark and a the symbol of Seattle"

"MOUNT RAINIER - «Look, the mountain is out!» Mount Rainier is a stratovolcano located 87 km southeast of Seattle, and is the highest peak in the Cascade Range - 4,392 m. The mountain is mostly covered by snow, but heat from the volcano keeps parts of its summit free of ice"

LAST FRONTIERS

WHITE SUMMER - ALASKA - AUGUST 2002

DENALI NATIONAL PARK

On the way from Anchorage to Fairbanks, you'll find Denali National Park, the largest protected ecosystem in the world - more than six million acres - and with North America's highest mountain - 6193 meter Mount McKinley. A fabulous place to visit, provided you are on the lucky side of the 15% of the visitors able to actually see the mountain, and not the clouds!

"GETTING THERE - The best way to get to Denali is by train"

"FLYING AROUND at ten thousand feet: - The airplane tour around Denali is a fantastic experience"

"AIRPLANE - Sometimes the peak is more than three thousand meters higher than you're flying; sometimes it seems that you're going to land on ice!"

"GLACIERS - The marks of the glaciers are clearly seen from the sky, and it can be seen how ridiculously small those planes are when compared with the mountain"

"SAFE AND SOUND - After more than one hour in the air..."

"IMPROVED - Same photo by professionals..."
