STILL SOME TIME... - MAY 2007
***
"A WONDERFUL STROLL – 2008.08.08 is a very special day for us: we got married thirty three years ago!
As we both love New York (I’m a bit crazy about it), and I had the intention to finish my New York posts - May 2007 - before the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games ;)), I thought that one nice way to start the early morning commemorations of the date would be to post the last of those posts on 2008.08.08 at 08h08, Lisbon local time! And what would be the best picture to start? Actually the only one of the series where we are together: under the protection of Botero’s Eve, at the Time Warner Centre. A photo taken by the kindest security guard we had ever met… ;))"

"INDIANS DOWNTOWN? - I wonder what kind of performance they were preparing for that Sunday afternoon. Maybe one of the quite knowledgeable New York City bloggers would be kind enough to explain..."
"2ND&E12TH - This building at the corner of 2nd Avenue with E 12th Street looked pretty nice"
"4TH AVENUE – Love these buildings"
"CHRYSLER – My favourite New York skyscraper!"
"UNION SQUARE is one of my spots in New York. No wonder, with Barnes & Noble bookstore and W Hotel... Blue Water Grill will come later..."
"PUPPETS FROM TAIWAN – Very far away from Mickey Sabbath’s Manhattan Theatre of Indecency, Roth’s version..."
"BLUE WATER GRILL –Couldn’t be missed, even if it’s for brunch… But there was jazz!"
"COLUMBUS CIRCLE – View from the Time-Warner Centre towards Central Park South!"
"ASPARGUS at Whole Foods Market on Time Warner Centre"
"CHEESE"
"TIME SQUARE – Everyday Light and Sound show guaranteed"

New York is surely a great place to post on 2008.08.08 at 08:08! Hope you enjoy seeing it as much as I loved being there… ;))
Taking into account the special character of the day, I also updated Blogtrotter Revival 70s & 80s with a post on the «English Riviera» and Blogtrotter Revival 90s with a post on «Rome, Italy». Have fun!!
Absolutely FANTASTIC pictures Gil, the 2nd one reminded me of Bangkok and of course my favourite is the Taiwan puppet..havent seen one before. Happy weekend :D
Hahaha... happy 08.08.2008 and timing is great at 08.08 for the posting. Your series of New York day and night are so beautiful and have so much praise for all the photos. Love the buildings with those beautiful architectural designs, the huge sculpture and the streets of New York. Amazing. We dont get to see much of these chinese puppets anymore over here. Happy weekend. :) Look out for our Singapore team in table tennis. :) I wish they will bring back an olympics medal.
Very nice pictures indeed! A moment of "saudade" (of New York...) is part of a happy aniversary day! Thank you! Guida
Happy Anniversary---what an auspicious day for such!

33 ans de mariage le 8.8.08 ça se fête !
Congratulations and jubilations.
Nous fêterons demain (en avance) nos 40 années de mariage le 31/0/198 à Kauhajoki (Finlande) et pendrons la crémaillère dans notre appartement de Troyes (tout en conservant notre maison de campagne).

Happy Anniversary!! 8-8-08 is truly a special day for you. I love your New York shots. I'm glad to see a photo of the Blue Water Grill, I was just there during restaurant week and enjoyed it very much. Greetings to you and your wife on this special day!!!
Your anniversary is a wonderful milestone...congratulations. Your amazing longevity is matched with an amazing collection of photos. I loved the one of the two of you together. Incidentally, I appreciate your comments on my blogs, esp. today's. One rmark, tho, my photos on visualstpaul recently are from my vacation in NEW Mexico--not Mexico, where I often winter. Had to make that correction since New Mexicans are a bit sensitive about that frequent confusion. Have a great week-end!
my God!!!
Happy Anniversary!!!
I knew I should've chosen a simple date to remember as I hardly can remember mine. In fact, I can't remember the date now
*biting nail*
regarding the indian, fantastically, the indian guy seems to be the same person with the same costume I saw back in 1983.
quite a couple of them. i bet they were preparing to sing and dance as they did when i was there.
Great photos as always - and great commemoration of a special day. I have several sets of friends who rushed to get married on 8 August, 1988 - a dragon year by the Chinese calendar. And these couples are still together.
Hope your day is wonderful!
Dearest Gil
I missed the most important part in this part. CONGRATS on the 30th anniversary..so good and happy to see a wonderful and beautiful couple! I hope I'll celebrate my 30th wedding anniversary one day too. I am 15 minutes away from the GAMES!! Enjoy yours and have a great weekend too, my special regards to your wife..and the beautiful model for all your posts!
Times Square, Chrysler Building, Whole Foods, Columbus Circle. What a great sampling of New York. But most of all a VERY BIG congratulations on the 33rd anniversary. You all make a very photogenic couple.
Happy Anniversary!
What a wonderful post and what a coincidence! 08.08.2008 is a special date for me and my husband too because we got married twenty seven years ago. Let’s celebrate together, my friend! LOLOL
I wish you two good health, love, peace and happiness and may you enjoy together very much successful and fruitful years ahead!
Your series of New York photos is really fantastic. The first one with you and your wife on it in the company of that “little” sculpture :-) is beautiful and interesting, indeed. Both of you look great. You wife always look so pretty and happy. This photo really was the best one to start.
I completely enjoyed this post and every photo you posted but I especially like the buildings with the beautiful architectural style and the Columbus circle photo.
Thank you for your visiting to my blog and always nice comments. Have a wonderful day!
As always... great shots... Happy Anniversary... hope you both have a great day... take care
I, too, love New York. You have some great pictures, especially of myfavorite building as well.
I think this is one of the best series of photos I have ever seen on any subject anywhere by anyone.
Congratulations on 33 years together.
Patty, my wife, and I have been married 53 years and those were the days.
I have been dealing with rheumatoid arthritis in my hands. The chemotherapy drug doesn't stop the pain so my typing is limited. Sorry.
Happy Anniversary, Gil!
I am glad to write a comment in this very special 08/08/2008 and admire your always splendid views: from the 4th Avenue to the Puppets from Taiwan, as well as the "Blue Water Grill", Chrysler Building and Time Square.
Have a nice weekend!
Congratulations on your wedding anniversary and many more to come!!
As always great pictures.
Hi Gil, A big champagne toast to you and your beautiful wife on this special anniversary. I have been to all those New York city spots you show (except the restaurant) but seeing it through your eyes is so totally different. Great Post!! ~ Lynn
oh wow GMG! Congratulations to you and your wife!! 080808! =D Was watching Beijing's opening ceremony..beautiful!
Congrats once again =)
Oh Happy Anniversary to you both. Thanks so much for your visit.
Your photos of NY are beautiful I have only been there once and that was just to spend the night so never got to see any of it.
A terrific series of shots showing not only the place but the spirit of NYC. If you send me an email directly, I'll send you my own somewhat inferior shots of Columbus Circle from the very same location in Time Warner. If you're still in NYC, I suggest a trip to Roosevelt Island via the tramway and a walk to the southern tip of the island, the site of my Gotham photos, but also a good spot to view the river, the UN, and your favorite skyscraper. In early morning it's a spot to catch the city under great light, and in the evening you can catch the city lit up. Terrific visit to my own city!
Mazal tov/congratulations, dear Gil, to you and your wife. It seems that NY is your second biggest love. In my language gil means happiness--obviously a fitting name for you. May it continue. Blessings to you both.
I love New York. I spent last Sunday roaming the streets. I too took photos of the big lady in the first photo :-))) (I'm not referring to your pretty lady, of course).
wish you happy anniversary!!...and more great years of togetherness...whooff!!....33 years of married life....and im having tough times completing my first year....not that we hate each other or something.....but since i got married i realised a big truth...its easy to love a person..but very difficult to live with him 24/7..hehe....
anyways....yor pics of new york are truly great..you seem to have captured the city from a very different angle.....whch i have never come across in so many pics i have seen before....and it made me think to click mycity(new delhi) from my viewpoint..hopefully ill act on that soon and produce a good post!!!...
First let me say Happy Anniversary, I hope you have 33 more happy years!
You gotta love New York. Very nice pictures, but my favorite is the first one. Awesome statue!
You have made me want to go back there and see some different things.
congrats on the anniversary....great shots of our fair city!
Gil!
Thank you for calling me to come here! 33 years, that's a lot of loving time and a lot of travels I believe!
Great pictures, I wish next year I'll visit NY.
I'm at work right now, first holidays are over, waiting for next week to get my second turn of them!! Have a nice nice day then, ciao!!
Great shots. and I wish you another 33 years of being together.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to you and your wife, Gil! And NYC is the best stage to celebrate! For more 33 years to come!
You've captured the multicultural life of NYC in fantastic pictures!
le birdland est un de mes endroits preferes pour finir tranquillement une soirée New Yorkaise. J'aime beaucoup la vue depuis le time warner (et ces deux boteros).
..and what better than to finish up at a good jazz session in Birdland.
Tks for sharing the great day!!!! I'm just a couple of years ahead of you, but don't be jealous.
Much happiness as the days go on.
Hi Gil. Just wanted to stop by and wish you Happy Anniversary! I love the post. The buildings are gorgeous!
Lisa
HAPPY 33 ANNIVERSARY! I hope yoyu had a winderful celebration there in Lisbon. I hope a return trip to NYC will be in your stars soon.
We are one year ahead of you, as my husband and I will be celebrating our 34 wedding anniversary in October.
Congratulations a best wishes!
Happy Anniversary to you and your lovely bride! 08 08 08....very good numbers!!!
I love your shots of New York......have a very happy day today!
Hi GMG, 6 days is not much time to visit 2 great cities like Krakau and Warsaw and have a look at some nice places around. You'll have to make some choises what you want to see. But i'm sure you'll have a great time over there.
What an auspicious day for your anniversary - let alone your marriage 33 years ago. First many congratulations. Love the photo in front of Botero's Eve. There's one the same in Monte Carlo, by the way - along with Adam. I love those sculptures. You both adorn it beautifully!
Wonderful photos you've posted of an obviously great time in New York. Many congratulations again for your anniversary.
Wishing you another 30 happy years at least! Congratulations. I am enjoying your NY photos...have never been there, but would like to, so for now, will just content myself with seeing it through your camera lens. The MOMA & Birdland would be the 1st & 2nd places I would head to, then maybe Carnegie Hall.
Beautiful series, Gil - I love NYC, too & you captured it perfectly! Beautiful buildings, colors, and just "the city."
Happy anniversary, too, & are you planning on going to the Olympics?
First off I would like to wish you and your life a Happy Anniversary! It is a special day indeed. :o)
I have never been to New York, but your pics seriously make me reconsider. I am not fond of large crowds but I would enjoy the diverse cultures and the food markets.... wow!
Those buildings on 4th avenue are very lovely. What time period is that from I wonder. I have always preferred older buildings. They have so much "substance", unlike their modern counterparts. :o)
I love all your photos. I can't believe how many places you visited in the city. Incredible! You should take me around when you come. ;-)That WAS nice of the guard to take your photo in the Time Warner Building. The last time I was in Whole Foods there, I started taking photos and was told to stop. No photos allowed, so you were very lucky to get some photos in. ;-)
Paz
First of all Congrats to both you & your partner on your anniversary...you both have come a long way...the photos as stunning as ever....I can only say what a way to celebrate the beautiful day...& yeah are you planning to join the Olympics also???...have a great weekend!
Hi Gil,
Happy anniversary to you and your charming wife. May you have many more. 08.08.88?
Bob
8 is the luckiest number in the Chinese culture! you sure are blessed with a great marriage! i am visiting new york at the end of the month! and your photos are a great pre-trip study!...
The two of you, the city, the variety, the colors, the unique--what a fine anniversary post you have here. Congratulations!
Glad you've enjoyed the Red Bull Flugtag photos!
Love your pictures of New York, I was there last February and have a lovely pic of Central Park in my living room now.
Congrats on your 33rd anniversary, we will celebrate our 32nd on Aug 20th.
I can almost feel the vibe of the city through your photos. Magical!
Have a great weekend Gil!
Happy Anniversary to Mr and Mrs GMG! Its notable how you are not just a jaded jetsetter but appear to enjoy your time very much.
Verily you would have seen the spectacle of a lifetime in 'Jing - how wonderful. Unless you ended up with a non-viable ticket - surely not!
Happy Anniversary to you and your wife! Now that's what I call true love. 33 years. And long may it continue.
Like you, my husband and I love New York, too. You've got very interesting photos here, and I especially like the first one :D
Thanks for visiting Norwich Daily Photo and leaving your comments. Enjoy the Olympics!
joy
Felicidade Gil!
Excellent idea to celebrate your anniversary in the little town. (New York - New York... the city is so nice you name it twice)
Have a great weekend and a lot of champagne.
P.S. I forgot to wish you a HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! Thirty-three years? Wow! I wish you another thirty-three happy years together, and more!
Best,
Paz
Hey Gil,
Congrats for your wedding anniversary!!!
And thanks for the great pics, New York is one place definitely on my wish list.
A very happy anniversary to you both!
You sure know how to take on New York. Love the Blue Water Grill and Birdland is an institution.
Happy anniversary! I love Botero sculptures, so I thought the first photo was the best, but the rest are very good too! Very enjoyable post, well done :-)
happy anniversary! seems like a great trip!
My first time here. Lovely pictures! And congratulations!
what awesome set of photos. especially seeing legendary tito puente in action. as well as umberto boccionni's sculpture. i recently saw a boccionni play here in manila so it was great to see his exquisite sculpture too. very well photographed. jumps out of the photo.
Happy anniversary..... 33 years!!! THAT IS IMPRESSIVE!
Love the photos, and several of them were taken just blocks from my apartment.
We also love Blue Water Grill.... and had dinner there last Sunday. They have the BEST sushi!
The Union Square Barnes and Noble is my favorite bookstore.... one can spend hours there, browsing through their collections, sipping on a hot (or iced) coffee in their Starbucks cafe, or attending to one of their guest speakers promoting their latest book.
Anyway, looking forward to your next destination!
mate !! this is the first time i have come across ur post and leaving a comment thereafter....
ur pics reminded me of a line i heard sumwhere "the world is like a book, those who dont travel read only a page"...
anyways a very warm wish on ur 33th anniversary ....
but before i wind up would like to ask u sumthin.... which camera u used to capture the moments in different phase of time???
wud surely love to get an answer... till then stay well and rock on !!
Ciao
Bonjour Gil,
Although it's belated, hopefully it will just extend the celebration a bit.
33 yrs marriage, that is awesome! No doubt, your marriage should be a hearth, from when comes the peace, harmony, and warmth of soul and spirit. ** Hope you both had a wonderful anniversary day and & Many happy returns **
Btw, getting to Lesvos (Turkish: Midilli) and visit Ayvalik with the daily ferry, absolutely YES. Just do it. It's much more worth to see Ayvalik and its surrounding even on daily basis:)
Your wife has got a 'bright and warm smile':) I always LOVE seeing her Smile in your photos. I send you both Hugs and Warm Greetings. Oh, wait, your daughter looks like so pretty nice girl!
NYC is awesome! I too have been there for a few times, and worth to visit again and again because a piece of my heart still beats for NYC:)
Again thanks a lot for your kind and encouraging comments, Gil. Have a fruitful 'blue' new week.
Blessings,
~Nihal
Wow! NYC is really great! Nice photos. Sorry for not blogging for awhile now. I was held back by a project, but will be keen to start blogging again. Hope to see you around.

Alex's World! - http://www.kakinan.com/alex
Hi GIL! Wonderful photographs! With all the culture still intact in those buildings wow! And am glad you are 33 years together!
..I'd love to visit the cheese shop!!!! I am btw posting fotos of venice son on my other blog, I'll tell you when its up coz i know you've been there too! Take care and have a nice week ahead!
Sorry I am late here Gil but 33 YEARS???
Way to go and Happy Anniversary to you and your wife :D
Really amazing set of pics. I love the first one. The statue seem odd but the next few pics are definitely awesome. Have a great week ahead gmg.
That Chrysler building sure is a beauty - isn't it?
I wonder what you will be posting about after 66 years together?!
A bientôt.
My best congratulations to both of you!
Even you have plenty of journey ( and many journeys ) compared with our years - next anniversary day is 6.6.09 and it is 45th. Oh, dear, we are not THAT old, not at all!!
Perhaps this knowledge is better to delete :)
And I wish you happy, healthy years also in a future!
Happy Anniversary! You two look FAR too young....
Out of all your NY photos, I esp love the one of Columbus Circle and the view of Central Park.
It reminds me I had a hotdog on that corner of the park! It was a very hot May long weekend (Memorial Day?) and my friend a nd I found a shady spot in the park and fell asleep under a tree for a while....(we did not wake up to see a White rabbit rushing past though)
Lovely New York photos. Congratulations to you both on 33 years of togetherness.
Happy Anniversary.
I'm a bit late but I'm sure you must still be in celebration mood.
Mumbai Daily Snapshot
Great series of photos from NYC! Makes me want to trot on up there...btw, y'all share your anniversary with my birthday!
What a special day, especially the once in a lifetime 08-08-08!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY MR. and MRS. TROTTER! :)
Enjoy yourselves!
Congratulations, fantastic pictures.
Bonsoir Gil,
Happy Anniversary to Ma'am and you, Gil. 08-08 is no doubt a lucky figure, 33 years of togetherness, GREAT!!
Pardon pour les 3 années d'amputation de votre anniversaire de mariage!
C'est vraiment un amour de jeunesse entre vous deux.A bientôt.
Congratulations to both of you - even though I'm a little late. It must be because I have problems to remember dates, birthdays, wedding days and dates that are important to people. I'm not even sure if we got married in 1987 or 1988! Must look up that thing
Super cool photographs!! and as always a great insight to tag all of them, indeed it made me feel like as if I was on a ride to New York :)
Have a wonderful day.
Hi gil
still going with congrats! well done.
hope your celebration is a great one. I would like to put your blog on my 'blogroll' as you have supported my site for some time and I appreciate this.
Cheers!
DO
haaaayyy i wonder when will i get the chance to visit new york.... i will definitely love it there.
Wow! Congrats on 33 years! A special day indeed. I love the building on 2nd ave. I'm like you, I love to take photos of the older buildings with all the details.
Ola, Gil!
Sorry i am late visiting. . .We drove to FL and I had very limited computer time.
I am with you. . . .Love NYC. I could live there, I think. Sigh. I like the Flatiron Building a lot, but the Chrysler is outstanding.
Congratulations on your anniversary! We are about 2 years behind you.
Congratulations (if somewhat belated). After having read your post from Ny, I feel I may not have to visit it properly...
Love the great photos.
Happy 33rd year wedding anniversary! I wish you more anniversaries that you and your wife will share together. Maybe you could share us your secret how to keep a happy and lasting marriage. :)
I wasn’t able to visit your blog for the past few days. I just got back yesterday from a trip to Taipei, Taiwan.
Hi Gil,
Having just got back from my holidays in the Himalayas, it seems like I am one of the last few to wish you for your 33rd wedding anniversary. However, better late than never!
My hearty congratulations to you and your lovely lady, and thank you very much for being around always, to share and to enjoy this spirit of friendship.
New York is a wonderful choice Gil. It is one of my favourite cities in the world, and I fondly remember spending hours celebrating on the near freezing streets at Times Square for the crystal ball drop to welcome the New Year!
All the very best always Gil and cheers.:)
yes Gil I agree this is definitely great post for -8-8-2008 for NY,I love NY , have been there too and this brings back the good memories!!! but I was also busy lastweekend this week, with a 'close-friend' funeral that -8-8-8 day (boohoohoo)not so nice eh?
Thanks for visiting my travel post about FRANCE, please come back. I posted some more impressions!
Kindly greetings, JoAnn-D-Eyes
Happy 33rd anniversary Gil!! Both you and wifey are very lucky to have each other. Here's to many, many more more to come. CONGRATS. ps/ and I luv NYC too :)
Many many congratulations to you and your better half on 33 years of togetherness. Indeed a very special day!! Wish you many more happy years ahead.
Its a lovely picture of the two of you together. The others are nice too, but this one is the best :-)
Thanks for your messages on my blog and your concern. You can say that no news is good news in this instance :-) - we have been blessed with a baby boy on 25th of June. So far I am busy recuperating and managing the newborn. Hence the lack of activity in the blogging world.
this is not your fault. it's chinese puppets not taiwan.
the people living in taiwan
are the mainland chinese. i just don't like that the people who lives in taiwan thinks that it's their so call "taiwanese" culture. they need a reminder that they're part of china.
happy anniversary to you and your wife. it's indeed a very special gift to have each other :)
WOW.....that is one BIG statue! I really enjoyed the photos and the details on your experience.
ah the world capital! great as always! love ur pics! :)
Happy Anniversary!
Where was the Indian painting photo taken? Was it at Union Square area?
Don't you just love Whole Food? I could live inside there.
Congratulations on 30 years and on such a special date as 08.08.08.
Hi everybody, thank you so much for your comments and wishes on my 08.08.08 post! It's lovely to have you here commemorating our official 33 years together! It was also amazing to have reached more than one hundred comments on a single post. Under the circumstances, I hope you’ll understand that I open an exception to my rule of answering to every single comment and make only a collective acknowledgement and answer… Thank you all, once again!!
I’ll make however an exception to the exception to answer some direct queries or remarks:
Alice SG,
Well a silver medal for the Singaporean girls was great at tennis table, taking into account that the gold medallist was China… ;)
Azer,
That Indian story is great! Sì non è vero è bene trovato…
Ted,
This was a May 2007 trip; anyhow, thanks for the tips, as I’ll surely get back to NYC sooner or later… ;)
Juka,
Thanks. I’ll try to save some more days to get to Warsaw & Krakow; for the time being it seems it’s raining cats and dogs there… ;))
Paul,
I’m going to the Olympics every day, in front of the TV set… ;))
Titania,
Sorry, I’ve no idea of what period they may be, the buildings on 4th Ave…
Paz,
After 58 times in NYC as a visitor, you must concede that we find some interesting spots… ;) A guy at the Whole Foods was also telling me «no photo», but I simple disregarded as if he was talking some odd language I didn’t understand… ;))
Julia,
Jaded jetsetter? Saw the show in Beijing on the front row: in front of a TV set… ;))
Dreamcatcher,
I started the digital era in 2000 with a Fujifilm 4700zoom, and then used a Canon G7 for some time in 2007, and a G9 from September 2007! The pre-digital era used many cameras, including lots of disposable… ;))
Nihal,
Thanks for the info! I think I’m going to Antalya for a week in September; directly from London Gatwick!
Lucie,
C’est vrai que ces immeubles rassemblent des cathédrales…;)
Dorothée,
Adam est de l’autre coté de l’entrée… ;))
Sigma,
Congratulations on your baby boy!!!
Ming,
It wasn’t Union Square, and I don’t think it was so far as Tompkins Square Park. Maybe around St. Marks in the Bowery…
You ARE a New Yorker. ;-)
Paz
Paz,
Thanks! I'm flattered... ;)
It's been way too long for a visit but never too late to wish you a most 'Happy Anniversary', Gil. Loved catching up. With warm thoughts ...
On the other side of that fat woman (first pic) is a fat guy with a shiny dick ;-)
Times square is so lively, wish we had something like that in Toronto!
Im very late here..but happy anniversary..one of the best posts and I loved every picture
Joey,
So glad to see you back here! Thanks!
Priyank,
Botero's fats are amazing...
Lakshmi,
Thanks!
I'm not sure what led you to photograph that building on the corner of 2nd Ave and 12th street. Perhaps it was the deli that used to be there. However, it was either that building or one that occupied that corner that my grandfather lived in in 1899 when he first came to NYC.
Ted,
That's amazing! I photographed the building just because, like the Flatiron, some in Soho and the ones on the nexrt picture (4th Ave), I liked it. And I don't even think it comes on Liza Green's guide «New York for New Yorkers» that I bought in 1995, when I used to get more often to NYC...
