LAKE GALVE

TRAKAI - JUNE 2008

There are 200 lakes in the Trakai region. The deepest (46.7 m) and most visited is the Galvė covering an area of 3.88 km² and including 21 islands. After the visit to the Trakai Island Castle, we had a tour of the Lake before lunch.

Hi Everybody! The exploration of Lithuania 2008 is approaching its end! On this post we make a tour of Lake Galve, one of the beautiful lakes near Trakai! Hope you enjoy and have a great week! Mine is perfect: holidays on Wednesday 10, (Portugal’s Day), Thursday 11 (Corpus Christi) and Saturday 13 (St. Anthony, Lisbon holiday)... birthdays on Monday 8 (my father), Thursday 11 (my daughter) and Sunday 14 (my wife)... ;))

Trakai Island Castle, and these pictures of Lake Galve are beautiful. The lake waters have such a calming effect!

With so many holidays, and birthdays to celebrate no wonder you sound so happy. A very happy birthday to your Dad, and to your daughter and wife too. Gil, have a lovely time celebrating it all.

These pictures appeal not just to the eye, but to the soul as well. One yearns to be part of this wonderful environ, wanting to foresake the monotonous humm of a fast paced life!

Thanks ever so much for this wonderful set of exhibits, these that I will never forget and revisit every once a while!

I deliberately do not use a word to categorize or attribute these pictures to since I know that the usage of such a word will not suffice to express its true beauty!

The tour of the lake looked wonderful. Nice picture of you and your wife. That pre-lunch looked good. If they had a great looking pre-lunch like that, I can imagine that the lunch was wonderful too.

Well, I didn't miss as much as I thought I would. You're still in Lithuania and I don't have as much catching up to do as I thought I would. Could that be your yacht?

Lovely lake. I would like to relax on a cruise in the lake too. :) And the wonderful spread of food really looked inviting. Yummy.

A bientôt.

serene-looking late with lots of beautiful structures. lakes remind me of my younger days when most of my friends in school would skip a subject and just spend our time swimming in the lake.

but it will be great if we had buffet like the last pis after swimming but all we had were mostly guavas we pick in a nearby tree.

great shots and story as usual.

Always so Swedish looking architecture and landscapes (and hobbies) !

Wow, incredible pictures. I like the tourist couple. That is an amazing place.

Happy Birthday to everyone. I'm jealous of all of the holidays you have going on. Nothing here until the 4th of July.

The lake looks absolutely serene. I think I need a break now...or a house by the lake would be just fine!

very very nice.

As always the snaps are stunning. Loved the shots of lake and the houses and restaurant on the lake side. Even the restaurant looks like a castle.

Thanks for the acknowledgment.

Ah !

You are having one BIG birthday party to celebrate? NO? Save me a piece of birthday cake. :) Enjoyed the lake photos Gil. I think I will ask my husband to paint his boat a pretty color like that first boat you posted. Happy Wednesday! ~ Lynn

So, Lake Trakai is in Lithuania! It's good to know. Your trip to Lake Trakai reminds me of my trip to Flathead Lake Montana, USA.

BTW, this place called TYSZKIEWICZ is very hard to pronounce. Is it pronounced like (Sci-ki-wikz)? I really dont know. I hope you can help me. Thanks!

Hi Gil

Your daughter and I share the same birthday, and we are celebrating my husband's 60 on Sunday! Gemini is a great sign! :-)

Lake Galvė looks so serene, even with a beer boat and the student's party boats. That was a large "pre-lunch"! Yum!

Enjoy your happy weeekend!

Hi Gil, your blog is the rest for my soul and for my eyes. There is no way I can visit your blog briefly and it always takes me a time to see every photo slowly so that I can enjoy completely. I really enjoyed your post on old Lithuania; Kaunas is definitely beautiful. I like the old buildings and the beauty of the city. Trakai castle is superb; it looks like from the fairy tale. I am also impressed with Galve Lake; its water is so inviting and its surroundings are just fantastic. All your photos are stunning. I cannot describe how much I have enjoyed in your wonderful posts. Thanks for sharing these photos of the places I’ve never been.
There are lots of celebrations coming to you. Happy holidays to you and to your family! Happy birthdays to your dear ones!

Hi Everybody! Can you imagine a week with three holidays and three birthdays and I being stuck here? That’s amazing... Something isn’t running as it should... ;)
Thanks for your comments! That’s what makes this blog a bit interesting!!

Susu,
Thanks! I wonder why they should provide us with all that food before lunch; and lunch was a never ending happening... ;))

Olivier,

Celine,
Everything and three days on the beach… The only point against is that I was stuck here instead of being travelling somewhere around… ;))

Rakesh,
Thanks! That’s too kind of you putting all these lovely words together for just a simple post; I’m thrilled!!
It’s true that the place looked lovely and the weather helped a lot!!

Barb,
You’re absolutely right: lunch was superb and we were actually treated as kings and queens by our Lithuanian friends!!

Emm,
Even for a lover of the blue colour this green is quite impressive!!

Vagamundos,
Obrigado!

Constance,
Thanks for your visit and first time comment here! Please feel yourself at home!!

G@tto,
Yeah! I don’t think it would be fun to travel there in deep winter time... ;))

Ted,
That’s true that I was a bit late in updating this blog, but things weren’t easy in the last months... ;) And unfortunately, the Lotto didn’t come here, so the yacht is still at the salesman facility... ;) Anyhow, I’ve always heard that there are only two happy days in the life of a boat owner: the day he buys and the day he sells... ;))

Alice SG,
The lake is absolutely relaxing, and at a certain point in your life cruising (like golfing) starts to be an excellent activity!!! ;)

M. Kate,
Thank you so much for your lovely award! You’re too kind and I was delighted to get it from you. Thanks again!
The place is absolutely idyllic for a meal; great idea to build a restaurant there!!

Hélène,
That was a day of great fun!!

Lyliane,

Norman,
I believe your swimming in the lake and the guavas will be much more commendable than all cruises on Lake Galve that I may ever make in my life… ;)) Priceless, that’s how those youth memories are… ;)

Daniel,

Ron,
Thanks on behalf of the tourist couple!! Three holidays and three days on the beach; but no travelling... ;(

Jen,
You raise an interesting question: if you can afford, should you buy a second house or not! I’ve always thought that the right decision was not to buy it; it represents a huge constraint on your holiday decisions, not to mention the cost of keeping it decent. Maybe I’m wrong...

Paul,
It depends on the lakes, but usually it’s always beautiful by the water: lake or sea doesn’t matter!

Azer,
Not crowded, indeed! Amazingly not crowded; small country... ;)

Rajesh,
You’re right; everything seems lovely on that neighbourhood; the presence of the water always helps a lot!!

Lucie,

Juka,
Glad to see you back here! I’ve seen some of your pictures of Normandy: they’re fabulous!!

Trotter said...

Part Two of the replies, Blogger «oblige»... ;)

Lynn,
We’ll try a big celebration this Sunday, though we had already a party on Monday; 92 years oblige... ;)) I’ll check the Pink asap!

Mariposa,
It was warm and nice, not hot and hazy as I’ve experienced in KL and Singapore... ;)

Joy,
Thanks! We had a guide, a cruise and a lunch. Everything organized by our Lithuanian friends. But I think you can buy such a package from a travel agency...
It seems there is a problem with your blogs. Now Google simply doesn't open it! I wonder whether it has something to do with the fact that you include a link t them in your comments; I had some troubles with Blogger and simply changed the way I used to comment... But maybe is something different... Have a great Sunday!

Gattina,
Ah, ah... confess: you were studying geography in France... ;)) I’m glad I can give some internet hints t some beautiful places... ;))

Stella,
Ah, Bled!! Great lake and great place to stroll around!!

Rune,
I can imagine that you would enjoy strolling around those lakes and castles. And you would make some fantastic shots, like the ones we may see on your blog!

Marie,
Everything by the water seems to gain an increasing beauty! I’m always thrilled by the sea, lakes or rivers... ;)

Lori,
We had a superb lunch to end the morning excursion; and it was a very late and very long lunch... ;)

Abe,
Thanks! I know it may seem too many at a time, but it’s intended to be a travelogue and tell the story of the journey... ;))

Baron,
Lunch was great, as you may see from the already posted barbecue; I just didn’t show what we had to eat to avoid making people incurring in another capital sin... ;))

Brigida,
Yeah, Lithuania! I have no idea, but it may sound like Teesh-Kee-Aeveesh... ;)

Lady/Kid,
That would be great; come back in the past... ;)

Magiceye,
Indeed!!

Pat,
Happy Birthday to you and your husband also!! Great month!!
They were quite quiet those students and those beer fellows... ;))

Medam,
It’s always greatly inspiring to read your comments here; as inspiring as seeing the beautiful pictures in your blog!! Thanks for your kind words. I’m delighted!!

Eye,
The places in the pictures have it all; not my fault... ;))

Kcalpesh,
Thanks for your visit and comment! I’m truly happy you liked the pictures and the post!!

Pietro,
I thought you would enjoy this one; it comes close to some of your lakes in Piedmont, a wonderful region also!!

Kven,
I imagine you could build an argument for a movie with around this lake and the castle!!!
