SYDNEY STOPOVER

SYDNEY, ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CITIES IN THE WORLD - NOVEMBER 2001

Sydney, being quite close to the water, is, with Stockholm in summertime, one of my favourite cities. These photos were taken during a very short stopover, on the way back from New Zealand. They show some of the beauty of Sydney, but there is much more to be seen there...

"INTERCONTINENTAL HOTEL - A nice hotel always helps enjoying your stay"

"INTERCONTINENTAL HOTEL - Any room there has a nice view, but from the 26th floor is even better"

"INTERCONTINENTAL HOTEL - The Opera House, one of Sydney's most popular icons, cannot be missed"

"OPERA HOUSE - Best seen from the water. Designed by Jørn Utzon and constructed under some controversy, it was opened in October 1973"

"TARONGA ZOO - Australia's leading zoological garden, featuring the finest collection of native animals and a diverse collection of exotic species. What makes Taronga something special is its location on elevated land along the waterfront, in one of the most beautiful vantage points on Sydney Harbour overlooking Sydney Cove, the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. Koalas, Kangoroos and Giraffes profit from this stunning location..."

"TARONGA ZOO SKY SAFARY - The best way to return to the ferry station"

"SYDNEY - See you soon..."

The best kangaroo shot I've ever seen. Great photos.

Beefbob7,
Thanks. I've also an amazing kangoroo video from 1992, but unpublishable...

Glad to see you enjoyed Australia (my hometown)... last time we went back home we had the chance to stay at the Intercontinental for free for 2 weeks... it was great and had the perfect view from the 25th floor with a birds eye view of the Harbour, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Botanical Gardens and the Opera House... though my hometown is 90mins north of Sydney... (I am an expat now living in the US)... well, take care

Fliss & Mike,
Thanks for your comment!
Two weeks at the Interconti for free? Wow, that's much more than I can get on my Ambassador Card... ;))

Great pics of Sydney. The first picture of the Opera House is wonderful. This is a place I will see one day.

I'll be in Sydney for a week this spring and I was hoping you had some blog posts about it, Gil. Is this the only one?

It looks like a beautiful city and I'm really looking forward to seeing it!

Pat,
It's a fabulous city... Actually one of the two most beautiful in the world, but the other (Stockholm) is only in summer... ;)There are two more posts from 1992, which you may find at http://blogtrotta90s.blogspot.com/search/label/Sydne.
Enjoy

For someone who has travelled as much as you, it is a heartening thing to hear you say it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I have always thought so but I thought I might be biased.
