NEW YORK AGAIN...

MANHATTAN ONCE AGAIN - MARCH 2004

For the last two and a half years I've not been to New York, and I'm definitely missing it. In 2004 I got some snow, and took some shots from sites I've not photographed before...

***

SNOW

"52ND STREET"

"EAST RIVER"

"ROCKFELLER CENTER - Ice and flags"

"CENTRAL PARK"

"PIER 17 melting snow"

"ALPHABET CITY - Alphabet City, formerly considered a slum, is now a trendy part of the East Village"

***

BUILDINGS

"CHRYSLER, late afternoon. No snow!"

"SUNRISE - 52nd Street"

"5TH Ave. and 98TH Street - Tom's apartment"

"CENTRAL PARK, no snow"

"TIME WARNER TOWERS- View from inside and seen from outside. The building consists of two towers of 229 m each. It is divided between offices, residential condominiums, and the Mandarin Oriental hotel, as well as The Shops at Columbus Circle, an upscale shopping mall on the lower level. There is also a 6,000 seat theatre for Jazz at Lincoln Center"

"GRAND CENTRAL STATION is the largest train station in the world by number of platforms: 44, with 67 tracks (41 tracks on the upper level and 26 on the lower). Let's take the Metro and go south"

"BOWERY SAVINGS BANK - The building was created by Stanford White, one of America's most prominent architects. He was born in 1853 and was shot and killed by the jealous husband of his mistress in 1906. His works include the Madison Square Roof Garden, where he was shot dead, the Washington Square Arch, the New York Herald building, the Tiffany building, and the Bowery Savings Bank building. This is now home to one of New York's hottest space for private functions, Capitale! It will be open to the public for Halloween Masquerade Ball on October 31, 2006..."

"LENIN IN NEW YORK - There is a Lenin statue in Fremont, the self-proclaimed «Centre of the Universe» in Seattle. However, another Lenin statue, created by Yuri Gerasimov, was already installed in New York, on Houston Street and Avenue A, on top of "Red Square", a luxury apartment building..."

"VESELKA RESTAURANT - 24 hour kitchen, good Ukrainian food, all-day breakfast or late-night borscht. What do you want more?""

Hi there. Happy 2007!
Thanks for the comment and for the correction. It's now changed and working well.
I was making a post on my 5th trip to New York at Blogtrotter the 80's http://blogtrotta80s.blogspot.com/
when I found your comment. If, as I suspect, you've been to the Azores, you may identify some of the spots I posted at the 70's -

Anonimous,
You're lucky to go to NYC. The dates are a bit late for the «Lincoln Center out of the Doors» Programme and a bit early for the new season, but it might be terrific to stroll around...
Enjoy!
