BACK IN NEW YORK CITY!

FLYING THE CONCORDE ONE LAST TIME - MAY 2003

On October 24, 2003, the Concorde retired from commercial service after thirty four years of flight and more that twenty five years of passenger service. It was the end, for the time being, of supersonic passenger transportation. So, on April 30th, 2003, I took one more and last flight on BA001 from London Heathrow to JFK airport in New York. It was a fantastic aircraft!

CONCORDE

"MACH 2 was the cruising speed of the Concorde. Here, after lunch and duty free buys, the Concorde was already slowing down on its was to JFK"

"FREEZING outside. Anyhow the speed was still interesting. The Concorde used to cruise at around 1350mph - more than twice the speed of sound - and at an altitude of up to 60,000 ft"

"MEMORY - Of all the flights I took on BA or AF Concorde aeroplanes, this is my only photo taken inside the Concorde!"

NEW YORK AT 52ND STREET

"APARTMENT WITH A VIEW - This time, instead of the Drake or any other nice hotel in NYC, I stayed at a friend's apartment on East 52nd Street. Nice view!"

"GRETA GARBO - 52nd is a famous place: west is Jazz Street; East received Greta Garbo. Born Greta Lovisa Gustafsson in Stockholm, she bought a seven room apartment at 450 East 52nd Street in the mid-1950s, where she lived for the rest of her life"

"EAST RIVER and MIDTOWN - Very nice views from a very nice apartment..."

"FIRE - To enhance the excitement of living in the neighbourhood, there was a small fire around the corner. The NY Firemen arrived at hundreds..."

"GUEST ROOM"

"DINING ROOM and LOUNGE"

"MIDTOWN - From East to West"

"SUNSET at East River"

"FIREWORKS - Preparing for the fourth of July. This apartment happens to actually be one of the best NYC locations to see the fireworks..."

"NIGHT VIEWS, with the Chrysler..."

Staying in NY is always nice but having friends with such apartments and free guestrooms is even better! Lucky guy!
